So given that HardWar is going on 13 years old(older than some of its fans, now) I imagine finding a functional copy is probably a bit of a challenge.
I remember well the fate of my disk: it was stepped on and cracked in half at a LAN party sometime in 2002. I didn't have the heart to throw it away and so it is probably still around here somewhere. Fortunately by the time my original was ruined I had already made several copies. More recently when I eschewed physical media all together, I had ISOs stored on a file server(which helpfully crashed and erased everything f***ing RAID) Fortunately I was able to redownload everything through Zedos site.
So I'm curious: has anyone still got an original, working CD for the game that they still use to play it? If not, post the fate of your original disk.

I have lost original copies, scratched them, broke them, left them with my ex wife and left them with a best friend. (I had kept purchasing the original cd's through ebay). I know own two original copies, but play with a copied disk atm.

I still have my original full retail package which I purchased in '98, on the first day the game came out. Purchased from GAME (a UK games store franchise). I have everything that came with the box, even the original till receipt. The is stored in my collection cupboard and very rarely sees the light of day. A few years ago, I got it out, simply to make .CUE/.BIN images of the original discs, so that I could take a copy of it while travelling around the World for a year (although I never got to play ANY games during that time ). I checked the condition of it and it's like it was the day I purchased it. It's probably been out of the cupboard no more than 5 or 6 times since '98. I also have a brand new second copy that I purchased off eBay, to which I didn't know who the seller was until he told me his name was Ciaran Gultnieks , so I got hime to sign and autograph the inside of the box for me.

I've still got my own first disks in good condition, but now you guys have me thinking about making backups. Never a bad idea.

I definitely recomend backups. I don't even use physical media anymore. When a new game comes home, it goes in the drive, the contents are copied to the file server and a nocd crack located. Whenever I want to install a game, I just hit the setup.exe. Failing that I also typically create .ISO or other image files and load from them. I haven't had to touch a game CD in years(except for new, of course). Also, janskjaer, I'm pretty sure we're all obscenly jelous

I try to use some of my old game CDs when I can (when I'm back in the UK - that's where the collection is). It's nice to have that feeling of getting out the box again, opening it up, having a thumb through the user manual and other documentation, and popping in the original CDs. I have a lot of old classic games like that, but my two copies of Hardwar are definetely one of my most prized possessions. A Collectors Edition for Hardwar was never released, so the Gultnieks-signed version comes as close to that as it can. In the UK, I actually live really close to where Ciaran works in Leeds, still working in the same city where the Software Refinery team were located, whilst working on Hardwar. Although, I actually live closer to Sheffield, the home of the games publishers, Gremlin Interactive. I never thought about it until now, but it's nice to say my favourite game of all time is pure Yorshire-born, just like me! ;D

I still have my original F2.1 from Interplay I bought at Babbages (USA) in 1998. I even have the box and paperwork in good condition. I play off copies and haven't used the originals since the first few times I played the game.
I was also sent an F2.0 version in French that I install from time to time. (I use separate partitions to run different versions under the same OS.)
I used to offer copies, but it has become too time consuming. I am working on getting ISOs of both online. Mostly I need a reliable server. I'll probably get more than one initially and cut back to a single server once download rates have stabilized.
I still play the original game under Windows98 on an old Compaq computer. I've upped the RAM and keep it strictly for my old games. It's a great idea if you come across an old computer. Saves a lot of problems.
I like playing the original game in the thick fog. It really paid to know your way around in the early days of the game. You could not see across craters or spot a target until you were right on top of them. I also like how you got in trouble with the factions for messing with the gangs. It brought up easy amnesty opportunities.
Of course, there's no Swallow. No tunnel from Downtown to Resevoir. The economy also gets stuck for days at a time.

Still have the original game and box. Got it at a Office Max years ago. Trying to take care of it as best as I can.

I still have a few because I bought about five copies of the out of bargain bins whenever came across one for 5 euro or less. But all the cases have cracked and they are not in the best condition. I like the original game the best, because it's the hardest. But I have to play UIM6 these days because my videocard won't put up with 2.1 anymore.

Just wondering, are there any major differences between the F2.1 and F2.0 versions? Bug fixes, AI changes, anything?

I got my copy of Hardwar back in 99' a long with one of my favorite RTS of all time (Fragile Allegiance) played the game heavily for a while and one day I dropped disk one I started to scoot back in the chair to pick it up when I heard crunch, the game had rolled to a stop leaning against one of the office chairs legs. Late 2000 or early 2001
I didn't find the game again till 2005 about 3 months before I finally found the first link to Hardwar, here at Zedo's.

Why not put them up on Megaupload.com? It's free and easy, takes the work off of your server and is pretty reliable. I use it for all my releases. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I bought mine around 1999 and kept it till it got too scratched up to play. I held on to the cd case for a while longer till it got destroyed in 2005. Your site was a life saver! I'd love a new copy in the case but I doubt anyone sells them or I could afford one.
