Thanks for that update. I think I scared people off with my 64-bit post. This really doesn't seem to be a major problem because I read about it and have never heard of another problem here. Leave it to me to buy some cheap piece of crap HP that gives fits to run a simple game!

OK I just got home (a few hrs ago) My Hardwar CD set was waiting for me. YAY!
It installed easily using win 98 compat mode on my mini tower (HP) Windoze 7 machine.
However, the laptop is still being stubborn. Still got the SpriteListFit - a block which is 'own page' MUST be square. Crash. Then I removed the installation and re-installed. Now the install fails with these msgs. DirectX Initiation Failed. clicked ok Next window Unable to set up DirectX. Hardwar may not work properly.
Next I noticed the Hardwar CD had a folder DirectX I looked in there and found an install file. I ran that, and got this error msg. DXinfo.exe The procedure entry point MapLS could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll So I'm lost again. LoL

Let Windows 7 check the executables and make its own suggestions. Mine runs best under Windows XP SP2. Windows 7 and 8 don't emulate FAT Windows well. Also the modern DirectX doesn't perform under Windows 95/98 emulation. Sometimes this is overcome and sometimes it ain't. It is not likely that Wiindows 7 with DX 10+ will let you install the DirectX in your installation CD (Direct X 5). DirectX 5 isn't needed as the backward compatibility in DirectX 10+ is pretty good.

The reason I went to Win98 compat is any other way it gave me the hard drive error not enough space. when I selected win98 mode it installed.

Good point. I don't ever get the disk space warning and I install without any compatibility settings at all. I run the game as XP SP2, but it installs without any problems. I don't have video until I've patched it.

Last night I checked for updates for the laptop. There were plenty as usual. So after doing all those updates along with restarting I decided I'd give it another go. Same results. DirectX didn't install. patched to uim06 anyway and tried starting the game. same results there... Spritelist msg as above and crash.

You can get directx from the microsoft website, it will almost certainly be at the first google result. Don't know if it will help or not though.

Hi, I'm having this strange issue with the game. I installed it and it's actually working and running fine, but the sky has textures just copying out of control on it, like some trippy traces stuff
I have Win7 64bit and tried all related solutions I could find... Has anyone else experienced this, do you know a solution?
Thanks

Hello agian, regarding that sky problem:
The issue is was in fact my laptop's autonomous decision to use the integrated video chip. One has to make sure the game runs with a proper video card, it looks like. That plus windows and the game is perfecto. Thanks for the pointer.

Just my input, I found that installing the game onto a reasonably sized Truecrypt volume (ie. 1gb) easily solved the "Not enough freespace to install" issue. Simply install and run Truecrypt as usual, load up the drive, and install the game into the volume.

Thanks for the pointer. *BumP* So it seems that integrate chipsets do have difficulties with Hardwar's complex graphics. I wonder what running it in 256 would look like. . . Hello, Just a word to say i had to convert the 2GB partition (created just for Hardwar) into FAT to make Hardwar install on it. NTFS wasn't appropriate. I run Vista premium... @+ If you ever install a game, Tomb Raider series, and run into a Cell Table *blah* *blah* error, installing the game(s) to a Fat partition will get them to work.
