Ok i run Win 7 64 bit. I can play HW fine with all the patches and stuff but when i goto go online when i select one of the three online game choices that come up it CTD with the read box saying... Fatal Error An error occurred while initializing the Direct Play connection. Cant set up link, invalid parameters. Help.

Hey Rusti,
Yeah, it's a known problem with Windows 7. I got 64 bit as well, and it happens to me too.
Not much fun... Best option is to dual boot another version of Windows. Lets me play old games I usually couldn't, even on XP.

I just did a clean install of Hardwar F2.1 and upgraded it to UIM.06 on one of my computers running Windows 7 64 bit. I was able to connect to Hammer's online game without any problems on the first try. I'm not sure if it makes any difference but I installed and ran Hardwar from my user account with administrator privileges. Two important things I did before trying to connect to Hammer's game were to turn on UPnP in my hardware router and to allow Windows Firewall to unblock HardwarW. Depending on your router and/or personal preference you could use port forwarding or port triggering instead of UPnP. I haven't done anything unusual to my Windows 7 64 bit installation except to run Windows Update every day and check for DirectX and driver updates occasionally.

You have to add hardwar to windows firewall safe list.
And you may have to run it in administrator mode because it needs to access stuff outside of your user account space.

Sucsess! Got it to work!
You need: Allow Hardwar access through Firewalls. Inc Windows Firewall. Set port number to 9001 in the Hardman Launch menu as recommended. Do NOT use compatibillity leave it under Win 7. Run as administratior. Clean install upgraded to UIM06 (not certain if nessesary) Crossed fingers!
Question: in Win 7 there are two Program Files folders. I want to have two versions of HW on my system. My offline game (with all the mods bells and whistles) & a basic UIM06 version for online gaming. Can i do this?

yes! thing is there are several ways to achieve it dirty and easy way, just copy&paste the hardwar folder, rename it according to what you want to play... Lets say the actual hardwar folder has your online version you want to keep, copy it and paste, rename it to h-offline, rename the original with H-online, now everytime you want to play each version, select it and rename it as hardwar... and you are done... hope I made a bit of sense...

Yes it worked, as long as you launch the hardman program from the folder the version of hardwar you want to play.

It's easy to install multiple Hardwar versions but unfortunately they all use a single registry location to save install locations, settings, etc.
I use a simple batch file called Hardman.bat to start Hardwar in each version's folder instead of using Hardman.exe. This batch file imports and exports a copy of the appropriate registry entries to a Hardman_Registry.txt file for each Hardwar version.

This also makes it easy to edit the Hardman_Registry.txt file with Notepad to run the GDV video files from your hard disk, to switch Resource file locations, Skin file locations, etc.
I have four versions of Hardwar installed something like the following:
C:\Hardwar\CD1 C:\Hardwar\CD2 C:\Hardwar\D1.6 C:\Hardwar\F2.1 C:\Hardwar\GDV C:\Hardwar\Resource C:\Hardwar\Skins C:\Hardwar\U2.04 C:\Hardwar\UIM.06
I'll probably further divide the Resource and Skins folders to something like the following:
C:\Hardwar\Resource\stock C:\Hardwar\Resource\custom1 C:\Hardwar\Resource\custom2 C:\Hardwar\Skins\stock C:\Hardwar\Skins\artist1 C:\Hardwar\Skins\artist2
The following shows how I edited some of the paths in my Hardman_Registry.txt files:

One minor pet peeve I haven't figured out yet is that Hardwar U2.04 and earlier won't let me put all the GDV files in a single folder. Hardwar UIM.06 seems to work fine with all the GDV files in a single folder when I delete the media.txt file.

Windows Vista and 7 make security a bad thing. Windows7 64-bit does not like playing with others. I suggest trying the game with Windows security center totally turned off (leave it off and replace it with commodo or ZoneAlarm). That will often solve network problems. You will certainly have to run it as Administrator.
You'll find that you have to run nearly everything as Administrator mitigating the very security issues an Administrator account is supposed to provide.
