Has anyone played, Elite: Dangerous? If so is it the good, the bad, or the Teeth? What is your impression and is it worth the high new game price?

I pre ordered it a few months ago, then the developers decided to withdraw the offline version so I never bothered installing it.

I have pre-ordered on January 2013, but I haven't Windows 7 so I can't play... when I buy W7 I will definitely play it! If you are running vista it might work? Or if you have the skills and the drive space you could cordon off a section and try windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-iso Windows 10 if your computer can run it, that said. . . it will become defunct around Windows 10's official release date. Still it would be nice if they final did release Windows version 7. Operating system - Version number Windows 8.1 -- 6.3* Windows Server 2012 R2 -- 6.3* Windows 8 -- 6.2 Windows Server 2012 -- 6.2 Windows 7 -- 6.1 Windows Server 2008 R2 -- 6.1 Windows Server 2008 -- 6.0 Windows Vista -- 6.0 Windows Server 2003 R2 -- 5.2 Windows Server 2003 -- 5.2 Windows XP 64-Bit Edition -- 5.2 Windows XP -- 5.1 Windows 2000 -- 5.0 So like their "Vista doesn't suck no more!" commercials Microsoft has continued to just modify vista rather than make a new OS, I guess that explains why they are completely skipping W9. If you look at their track record it is every other OS that sucks (Windows 98, Me, Vista, 8) or is actually not too bad. Windows 95, 98SE (Second Edition), XP, 7, 8.1. . . following that trend maybe they skipped 9 all together, hoping that 10 will actually be good. I've personally not had many issues with W8 (Thanks to Classic Shell!!) except for Microsoft forcibly installing 8.1 on two different occasions. Congratulations! Well that sounds a bit annoying I guess? Perhaps a deal could be arranged? I would have happily given you my copy but unfortunately it's only a downloadable version. When I tried to upgrade to the dvd version it wouldn't sell me less than ten at a time. I see, so it can only be downloaded once? You should definitely make backups then.

Its $60...umm... The friend who introduced me to hardwar keeps insisting I should get the game but he is smart enough to not get it himself...
I hope it is 60 dollars and not euros, if euros I better do same thing as teeth and buy a house... Congratz by the way!
1 dollar= 8,56 pesos 60 dollar= 513.60 pesos Taxes for paying dollars 25%= 642.00 pesos Taxes for paying dollars outside the country 25%= 802.50
Considering the effort to gain 1 peso here is almost the same to gain 1 dollar there, I will ruminate the idea for a long while... perhaps in a couple months when I'm out of priorities for a while...

I finally decided to get it and played most of the trainning misions, man docking is still a annoying, I also went to the wrong pad (incurring 2 400cr fines) Which was most of my starting money, thankfully I ran across a few bounty targets due to jumping to a nearby system to explore. . . anyway this was all in Solo mode, "Open play is when everyone can see each other. Solo play: you will never see another player." is the way that a person on the elite forums explained it. So think of it as single player, but the games' markets and systems discovered are linked back to the individual player. Also after personally checking credits do transfer between Solo and Open Play. Which means if you ever want to play with the rest of the players you want be starting off with the newbie ship and no funds. There is also a co-op mode that allows people that join the group to play in the same, I guess GWars 1's term fits here, instance.

Any updates on your opinion of the game? As a matter of fact yes. Massive., the scale of the universe, the location I spawned is about 111.65 LY (light years) from Sol I have traveled at most is 20 LY from that radius. I scrolled to the far side of the map, which is largely unexplored by anyone, and found a star 60,592.59 LY away and had "no travel route available" appear when I did try to plot a route. . . there are also many stars in the game that have no planets, let alone stations. (See quote number 0.) Suspicious! It seems like if you fly strangely local authorities are more likely to scan you. . . I could be imagining it, but I tend to get scanned more often when I fly a bit erratically or exaggeratedly. (See quote number 1.) HARD!! "There is a war going on and it ain't easy. . ." At least in Hardwar you were likely to get attacked for having cargo. When flying about you'll like encounter various anomalies, avoiding them or not is up to you. You have to slow down to enter most of them which is. . . (See quote number 2.) Anyway each one (especially High Intensity Anomaly) have possible dangers, one I stopped at had jettisoned art work, sadly scavenging is illegal, but many stations have a black market, so it can be profitable. . . that said it is better to charge jump engines before approaching any salvage. . . I carelessly approached one and was ambushed by three or four pirate ai. I didn't survive. I have died a lot. . . Docking!!! and Launching- Dying! It is possible to die if you try to land too fast. I have done heavy damage to my ship that way, I have even destroyed my canopy.
- Approach you may not always know which way to approach, but you'll learn.
- FINES!! You see a yellow hologram highlighting the landing zone, you casually fly to it just to receive a clear this landing zone message and if you don't in time you will be fined. Good thing this is a large station and you are cleared to land on pad 42. . . Well don't block the main entrance, and don't try to steal someone else's pad!
- Landing Gear not deployed - you should deploy it within a few meters (feet) of the pad.
- Launching First advice hold "R" by default this will raise your vertical height when launching. Next retract your landing gear, it will increase your speed and and once you leave the gravity of a station allow you to use your hyperdrive.
- QERFX They by default are you best friends when landing. These will let you Strafe Left(Q) Right(E) UP(R) Down(F) and finally completely stop(x). I recommend increasing the dead-zone on the landing controls.
- Don't forget to to click enter landing bay before browsing the stations menu, you don't have too, but it says a bit of time since the landing bay turns you around.
Mirror Verse!!!! I fought one ship (bounty of 20k!) it was a high tier ship (I think one of the 6 million credit ships) while I still had the starter ship and managed to win, but while fighting the maneuvers I was using were being used by the other ship as well, I started feeling like I was shooting at a mirror. . . That said, Thankfully, the starter ship is a loaner and if it is destroyed you only lose credits if you had purchased cargo in your hold. MY ADVISE!!!!!! I recommend using the starter ship till you save up about a 100k before purchasing a new ship, my first ship 100% mine on ship is an ADDER I like the cargo room and I never played trader. . . till now. Anyway my "insurance" on that ship is 95% meaning that if I get blown to smitherns I pay 5% of my ship and equipment's value to replace it, which means I need 11,000 at the moment. --> Replacing modules gradually on your first ship is something I now recommend after gaining hindsight since it will allow you to survive a bit better. Making credits, there are various ways to make money in-game.- Bounty Hunting you happened to visit a war zone area and a few of the ships happen to be wanted, since there are already unwanted ships fighting them join in, as long as you can keep behind them you have a high chance of taking little to no damage. After your target is destroyed move to the next one. Don't forget to grab scavenge.
- TURN IT IN ASAP!!! This gets it's own point because I have lost at around 40k by not turning a bounty in on the first occasion, when you die you will not loss money, unless you have an insurance claim. And only if you want to restore your modules/ Currently I recommend this since modules can be sold for the same price you purchased them for and even have a 100% trade-in value when upgrading to a better module.
- Scavenging this is a painful endeavor, first there are no salvage drones (I could cry bitterly over this.), second no tractor beams (as far as I have found), third and importantly running into the dropped cargo will not pick it up and at high speeds will lower the hp of the cargo container and once it hits zero its gone [theory]if your shields are down you could even crack or destroy your canopy[/theory],
[/sub] [li] Bulletin Board - Check it often! A few times on a trade run it has had a mission like deliver a letter(doesn't take cargo space) to needing a material, such as gold and pays 1.2 to 1.5% more than selling it to the station normally.[/li] [li] Smuggling - It is an option I have yet to find a route that is profitable, since local security offices must have been born on Titan and will fine you before placing a bounty on you 24 hours later if it remains unpaid. Admittedly continuous fines can also lower an areas opinion of you. . . *cough*[/li] [li] Cartography, you can make a killing off of cartography assuming you don't drop your guard out of curiosity for some anomaly. That said you need to scan the star, planet, asteroid field, and anything scanable. And then travel at least 20LY from that system before you can sell the charts, these charts remain in your ships computer and die with your ships computer.[/li] [/ul] [Rants about science and stories below read if interested.] Most stars are so distant that no Earth or space based telescopes can see whether planets are within a given star system. And scientist have come up with ways to predict whether a planet is potentially with a system. One method is by observing a stars intensity, like a person can block the sun with one hand, when a planet on the scale of a jovian planet crosses in front (from our perspective) of a star it's light dims then the time is measured from when it dims till the next time it dims, to the same degree, and a rough estimate on the size and distance of that planet are formed. Disclaimer: There are many more things that are used and variables that are measured to come up with these estimates. On a few smuggling runs I could find the docking bay, I hate orb shaped space stations. I REALLY hate them. For example the reason satellites stay in orbit is because according to physics they are going fast enough to maintain there distance from Earth. If a repair crew needed to visit one the shuttle and astronaut need to "fall" at the same speed as the satellite in order to work on it or even approach it. Anyway you also have to slow down to match the station || anomalies velocity.

My hard copy finally arrived!I've been reading up on their updates and now if you're a billionaire you can make big changes to the game environment such as overthrowing the local factions or governments and installing new regimes. Also if you are rich enough you can team up with others to build space stations and capital ships.

I'm dirt poor with that in mind. . .
Edit: I use Expers if you would like to add me to you friends list if you have decided to play Elite: Dangerous.

I just witnessed what happens when you don't leave space dock in time, all of a sudden four weapon turrets started firing inside the hangar bay and destroyed a ship behind me. . .
