Hey teeth
Thanks for the host, don't know if it is still up, but i'm not getting anything come up.
I assume you just put goodolgaming.com into where you would put the IP address?
Nothing has changed on my setup since Hammer's

I was able to log into my server without issues (I'm not on the same network as my server so its no different than you guys connecting).
It was a bit laggy, so I killed some processes that were hogging CPU/Memory, logged in again and it seems a lot better.
Its on day 6242 as of this writing, if the game seems stagnant, I can start a fresh one if there is interest.

try using the IP:
74.91.125.212
The server has a static IP so it shouldn't change

I'd be happy to join any new online games that come up. What would even be cooler would be if I saw someone else online at the same time as me . Time zones and class will probably make that difficult, but who knows what could happen...

Thanks for the IP teeth - still nothing coming up on the XP machine. One thing I didn't think of is that I'm running inside a VM which might be a factor.
I'll try the IP with w7 when I get to it.

Yeah, it could be a networking issue, you would have to make sure the VM has an IP that works on your router (have it set to not use NAT), and forward the ports to the VM and not the host machine.
Also, I'm assuming you were able to install DirectX on that VM? It would need DirectPlay to connect.

Hmm.. the VM is configured no part of the main PC except the intel virtualization of code and USB ports (and network card disabled on main PC and in VMware - stop the VM accessing the PC in any event of virus, excepting via the CPU obviously).
dxdiag shows up OK, and hardwarw.exe is listed under the diretplay heading.
internet is via a Sony phone tethered, used it for Hardwar since 2008. sometimes using it as 'phone as modem' (virtual ethernet) prevents online play but never had any problems with 3G dialup. i'm not sure where you'd start with NAT - but I know my ISP constantly undoes things to stop me using ICS/bridging on the tether.
all of which is useless information really!

Uhhh....yeah, you are on your own on that one, sounds like a pretty complex setup, no wonder it doesn't work... I'm pretty sure in most VM situations, the host machine has to have a working connection and it bridges the VM network adapter to the host one, unless you are using a USB modem is which case you shouldnt need the host network connection. I would check your Windows VM's Firewall settings, try turning it off if its on. Why are you so paranoid about getting viruses anyway? I've been running without A/V for years, I just avoid sketchy sites and downloads.
