I'm not new to Hardwar, I played it a long time ago and remember getting very addicted to it. I'm redownloading it and playing it again, but I was wondering a few things...
I've heard that the AI Moths don't re spawn, or at least some types don't, and the world gets a little deserted after a certain period of time. Is that true, and if so, is there any mods or something out there that fixes the problem?
Aaaand are them U3 beta or something like that patches worth getting? I like the idea of manufacturing parts, hiring AI and I have no idea what rooms are but are those things included in the UIM patches?
Thanks for reading through my mindless babbling...

All of the AI pilots respawn except for cabs. This allows you to kill off the cabs and eventually the factions as they use cabs to get new pilots. The pirates and traders keep coming forever - as do Police enforcers.

I haven't seen police patrol respawns except in the Enhanced versions and I'd really like them, even if in EXTREMELY muted numbers. Police Patrol 1 and 2 always tangle with the stack of pirates in the Psycho Bobs 2 line and get eaten, but then...nothing. Of course, the pirates that got them are worth good cash, and are extremely weak (this is a hint, for newbie!)
MrHack, the definite patch to get is UIM.06 Definitely definitely definitely absolutely. It's basically Hardwar 1.5... I'm not sure about hiring AI as I tend to do everything myself anyway, and if I recall correctly the AI hireables in Hardwar were ridiculously high maintenance, but manufacturing things is an enormous addition to the game, and rooms basically allow you...to...for instance, dock in Downtown Estates, get out of your moth, 'walk' using the console (console is opened with o key by default in version UIM.06) to Psycho Bobs 2 and even continue into Trade Central. Some buildings are connected, though getting there without a moth only serves so much purpose offline.
UIM.06 doesn't really get empty except... in specific circumstances. For instance in Hammer's ancient online persistent game of many thousands of days, all the hangars were basically bought up, leaving very few if any for AI to own/be spawned in, and the world came to a halt. Offline I really can't even imagine a properly working install of the game to have any such issues unless you rabidly hunt pirates and buy their hangars (or conversely, traders/scavengers).
It's absolutely no problem reading, and I'm literally bubbling with excitement that there's a legitimately new player who's not afraid to ask questions. I might not have any expertise in coding or modding the game, and only so-so (by my self-humbling estimation) knowledge of the mechanics and workings, but I'm a pretty good Silver-Y pilot, and very eager to help.
You're very grammatically eloquent for a fifteen year-old, by the way. The only two one-letter words are "I" and "a" and it's rather encouraging to see someone who understands that. It's a valuable skill, keep it up.

Cobra I had no idea you paid attention to grammar. Interesting.
UIM06 is by definition the standard here, especially for online gaming, However if you don't mind the ride I would suggest trying, the following as well.
U3.5 - It is in it's own right a different world, with a added Weapons and Moth Dealer.
Enhanced - This makes the game crazy, you will need a modded executable file hardwarw.exe, found on Zedo's download page I believe. And one of the many Enhanced or Enhance2 files some of them are stable and some of them crash, particularly when you target certain dropped cargo... But I did really like the pdi options for the TI interface.
The TI can be difficult to learn, fun to master, and ruin ninety percent of the fun if you know a few things that I know.

Hmm.... I never realized my grammar was special... I was just thinking before though, when playing, that the first twenty minutes in Downtown was hectic, Moths everywhere shooting the crap out of each other (very profitable for a scavenger). But if I remember correctly, by the later stages the game world is a lot more empty. There was still online games around? I had no idea, I must see this. And on another note, and I know you guys probably hear about remakes etc all the time, but what say you about a 2D version of Hard War? I know that kills half the game, with all the flight mechanics gone, but it's like... a 2D... version... which I've seen work before. A demake, of sorts, I guess. I've been itching to try and create a dynamic economy for a game. I'll have a look at them other patches as well, thanks for the info. Is it possible to mod entire new Moths into the game?

Cobra I had no idea you paid attention to grammar. Interesting. When first I was around these parts, I was...eleven? Twelve? Younger... Hardwar came to me through my first non-ancient-childhood friend, on the bus to and from fifth grade. I learned my typecraft during several long tenures roleplaying between the ages of 16-18 and I daresay, I believe I did not learn poorly I'm fascinated by the concept of a 2D Hardwar. I don't even know how it would be good; Hardwar is kind-of only 2.5D as it is, since you can't roll your craft over. That gets rid of all sorts of maneuvers that can only be emulated by crazy thrust control (cobra roll, Immelman, and others)

cobra: The police enforcers that come after you will respawn from Alpha forever. I don't see many cops unless they are after me. Then they are endless unless you follow the strategy on my site: zedo.hardwar.org.uk/enforce.htm

Online Game: Check Hammer's Section. 2D: I would be interested would it be like a Zelda style 2D with a view from above or a Side Scroller? Mod New Moths: Yes and no, current moths in Hardwar are replaceable with alternate models, Kestral being the most memorable I suppose. Their was a decent Taxi replacement craft, which brings me to a second point, a taxi is the only moth that cannot replace or be replaced with a "normal" moth, in other words a one seater.

It seems this old thread from November about Enhanced development over here ---> hardwar.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gamemodification&action=display&thread=42seems to have an Enhanced version that works pretty darn good actually. Install off of Zedo's disk ISOs, patch with UIM 6, unload that into the directory, set your options and you're good to go!! (I turn off the economy changes, alcohol at 57 just makes me shudder a little >_>)

I'm not sure what what kind of 2D: I was originally thinking of sort of like a top down style, and I even experimented with isometrics for a little bit... but I abandoned that relatively quickly. I dunno, I'll create some sort of demo and see what you guys think! (Just don't expect anything professional... I only started game development a few years earlier)
