Having played hardwar now on and off for about 10 years, I have never been devastated. I have currently been playing again, using uim 6 enhanced, and lo and behold alot of pirates carry devastators. Needless to say, they "popped" my cherry. I now have 2 general complaints with Devastators
The addition of pirates with devs really alters your approach to killing pirates. Although it does seem to be only a few pirates who are lucky enough to receive them.
- They make the same warning sound as a sprat. That means if you are not paying attention to the flashing red warning on your screen, you may miss the fact that you have 3 seconds until death. And it is hard between all the other "pirate1 targeted you","pirate1 damaged you", etc.. messages to catch the devastator message. Even the swarm makes a more important sound then the dev.
- I had a pirate attacking someone right after i loaded a saved game. The fight was occurring right outside my hangar. I decided to join in. I came up behind the pirate and started with a few plasma cannon bursts. And while still facing away from me, he fired a dev and killed me. I have only ever noticed the fireburst having a wide variety of attack angles before. So, I cloned, hoped into a new moth and started experimenting.
- I noticed the pirate tended not to fire a devastator at a trader.
- He could hit me with a dev while I was behind him, above him, or below him.
- And the warning message that does flash on your screen is quite short.
