I have a question that maybe of general interest and I think at leat Captain Zedo knows a thing or two about this.
I just bumped into a youtube clip that could not be viewed because of my country of origin. Copyright bull and what not. Piratebay has the same problem I can't acces it unless I search the torrent via Goolge. No real problem but... I figure that the power of the INTERNET is that it has and should have no borders. It should be this collective cloud of knowledge that the whole planet can access. It's the principle of the thing.
I know it's possible to mask you ip address, but what's the best way to do it. And how can you be as obscure as possible to big Brother wanna bees on the net?
All light that can be shed on this topic is greatly appreciated.

There are a variety of IP hiding tools. They work by using proxy in "unregulated" places like Russia, Latin America, and parts of Asia. Your requests are made throught these unlogged machines and all the data you recieve has their URL. If that URL is okay, you are in business. This allows you to go anywhere on the web with the same URL being reported to your service and machine. It takes some serious manual snooping to find out what you're doing via your proxy. The bad news is that several proxies are well known and will probably be blocked as well as the content you are wanting. Give some of these gadgets a try (now watch this be blocked): www.freedownloadmanager.org/downloads/proxy_hide_ip_info/They all work the same. It's convenient to get one that automatically updates itself, as well as allowing you to find proxies yourself. Remember, if you can get to a proxy list, so can those blocking you. It's not that hard to stay ahead, though. Daily updates seem to be enough to get past restrictions in Germany and Netherlands. It's tougher if you live in China, but then again, if you live in China, you can't get here. Thanks, Google, for all of your hard work persecuting Chinese browsers. As a final thought, proxy browsing slows down your overall browsing and downloading. Also make sure that you are not in China, North Korea, or anywhere that will kill you for looking up proxy servers.

This one works 90% of the time for me and I am in Germany. www.dd-wrt.com/site/dd-wrt_privacyJust remembered to add that I can even watch videos from various sites without any slow downs or hiccups. Its ad supported, however, I am running ad block and rarely see any ads.
