U2.04 offers the choice of either 3Dfx's Glide2 or Glide3 API.
Both work fine on U2.04, and I can prove the difference by introducing a 3Dfx shield watermark in the bottom-right of the screen when Glide3 is used. The 3Dfx logo when Hardwar starts also indicates which API version is being used.
Sadly, Glide3 was removed from U3. It wasn't just the option in the Hardwar Manager that was removed either.
I installed U2.04, but used the HardwarW.exe binary from U3.0b4. That allowed me to select Glide3 in the manager, but when the game starts, it reverts to Direct3D.
Any idea why this was removed? Glide3 looked the best and the sharpest, as well as allowing resolutions of 1024x768 and full-screen video without the usual error and workaround that is needed for Glide2.
