I'm guessing, quold, that you actually hacked your game to have H3 as a conurbation hangar and used your thugs to do the heavy lifting for your micromanagement work; that probably is why you make suspiciously higher amounts of money than usual. However, I still find H3 an overrated hangar to purchase in the game. I still prefer my Downtown hangars, thank you very much. If that is how you want to make money, then I won't stop you. It's just that I'm not persuaded to perform the unconventional methods that you do, and neither do some of the others.

H3 is still one of the closest hangars to the Mines

I haven't explored the downtown hangars very much other than Downtown 05. Do some of the vacant hangars near The After Dark pay off well?

Well, Downtown has just about everything you need to set up whatever you feel is a good place to manufacture your goods and wholesale them to other nearby retailers. However, for the rarer goods you want to produce, I'm afraid Prison Mine is the only viable building that consistently and limitlessly produces Gems and Ore for your desires. If only the developers from the Refinery had added more of those buildings like Prison Mine to the other mainstream craters, it wouldn't be such a hassle, but unfortunately, we players are forever stuck with the Mine in the aptly titled Mines crater.
Also, retailers benefit from public hangars being used as repair stops like the Breaker Maker buildings; however, all of the Breaker Makers themselves are in strategically poor locations for most retailers. Therefore, hangars closest to a retailer provide the most positive monetary benefits if set to public repair stops.

Just finished playing through a challenge I thought up (and the reason for this thread in the first place): The objective is to test patience and experience with thugs and general knowledge of the game. To start: Start as Scavenger Silver-Y Go to Psycho Bob 1 and equip Plasma Kannon and Flairs Shoot trader Go to Police and lose moth Now start the challenge
The goals: Be debt free Own at least one hangar in High Rise and one in Riverside The Swallow must get the mystery package All of your moths (including thug moths) must have a fusion cell equipped Get to $1,000,000 as quickly as possible
The restrictions: Your first hangar must be Vacant Tower in High Rise. It is the only hangar that can be public. You cannot purchase hangars in any crater except for High Rise and Riverside You cannot ever sell a Moth You must stay out of the Downtown Crater except for plot points (the beginning to get the challenge started, First Encounter, and trips to Psycho Bob) and to make runs to Central Industrial for manufacturing equipment - which must be done from the Gamma tunnel only Your thugs must not enter Downtown Crater If you die, you lose the challenge (Cloning is acceptable) No God Hangar or other similar types of cheats

It took me a little over 22 Days to finish this challenge. Five days and almost $400K was spent on DHs and Silver-Ys (I filled up three hangars with them) trying to get a Police Moth and a Swallow. Some of the thug tips discussed here made things a bit easier towards the end.

Yes they can. I played around with these commands a lot to get things set up. The odd thing, though, is that there is a number assigned to the buzz command. I assume this relates to the amount of time the Thug will hover near a hangar before continuing on. You can see this when you order the Thug to report. I left it alone and haven't tried to lower it at all.
BTW, I'm running UIM06.

On a separate note: I ordered a thug to board the wrong moth/bay at one point, followed by a quick order to go to my home hangar. He refused to board the correct Moth when I attempted to fix the issue. But, a few game-days later, he showed up in my home hangar - in a taxi. The order name, clear function has been a bit hit-or-miss for me - particularly when a thug is still inside a hangar. But, once launched, it works like a charm for fixing mistakes.

Well, now that we've covered about non-attractive purchasable regular hangars, what about non-attractive purchasable pirate hangars? The two pirate hangars from Highrise seem to make my list. The pirate hangar near Lazarus Hightower doesn't get any slack for attractiveness either.

There's one way in the back of Highrise, I believe its called Darkbase, that's pretty undesirable. Kind of out in the sticks, but without the advantage of being turned towards the crater wall(as most ground-level hangars are. That miiiiight be the worst hangar out there.
The other hangar in the wall also lacks defensability(being able to "hide" behind it as you enter), but is close to both highrise motors and the tunnel into down town. I was operating out of this hangar when buying exotic moths from highrise motors and found it much more convenient than the other highrise hangars.
The one on the ground near lazerus high tower, in downtown, is actually a really good hangar. It downtown, so a short hop from all kinds of resources, but off the beaten path, and the entrance faces the crater all. Its the perfect place to zip over to with an afterburner, then duck down inside before the pirates even get close!
