I have deleted my post before Pilot's. I got the install working by NOT using win 95,98, 2000 mode under windows 7(32 bit), using UIM06. Thanks for all your help on the site guys! Swami

Making a FAT is a clever solution, but it's time consuming. I haven't had to go that far in getting Hardwar to work yet. On the other hand, my Windows 7 machine doesn't have a graphics card, so Hardwar won't run on it without a DirectX fix. So, I have a whole Windows98 machine dedicated to running a bunch of old games that I love.

The only big problem I come across installing Hardwar on Wnidows 7 machines is the video. Usually setting compatibility to Windows98 and using a patch clears up video problems. Occassionally the DirectX doesn't work, but people use video cards today.
When I find someone that just can't get the game to play, it is usually because they only have a system board based video system instead of a video card. That makes all the difference.

...they only have a system board based video system I have also a system board based video system. But maybe I'm lucky not to use Windows 7, but Vista. And still I had an XP system, still not so long, that would probably everything easier. :-)

Hi zedo, thanks a ton for taking time and making these patches and whatnots.
I have a problem.
I got the hardwar iso 1 and 2, installed UIM2.04 and then unpacked "missing wez.zip" into the installed folder, but when I am in a trading building hanger and access the computer there I dont see any buttons just the rotating image of the building I am in. I can mouseover on "logout" and "check goods here" which shows a small text below the rotating image. but once I click on "check goods" button I dont really know what or where to click to change the currently shown item and purchase ot because of invisible buttons.
I have a Nvidia 8600 and I am using Direct3D primary display in the game resolution box in launcher. I am using windows xp.
Even a small picture of where the buttons are, will do me real good, atleast I will be able to play the game.
Thanks and cheers for this game.

missing_wez ... still? Lol zedo, the original file name is missing_rez (for the resources missing in the demo) and that file was packed by wez... missing_wez... lol?
--------------------------------------
Now, Simplegoogly you didn't need the missing_rez file if you downloaded the iso's but still can't see that file doing any harm in the installation, at most it only overwrote some files. Have you tried changing the screen resolution? it seems to me you aren't seeing the complete view displayed on your screen... that alone is really odd... perhaps later I can post a couple screens if nobody do it first...

Here are a couple of things I'd try: 1) Try using your secondary video instead of DirectX. Change this in the drop down box under your Launch Menu's Video tab. 2) *Decrease* the game's resolution, also under the Video tab. Increasing the game's resolution places the buttons further apart. A very high resolution might just place them entirely off the screen. 3) If worse comes to worst, you can use the Terminal Interface to perform the button's functions. Check out how to use the TI at: zedo.hardwar.org.uk/term1.htm

Thanks for the reply guys. I tried 800x600 nothing changed. then I tried to change the display to secondary which is not supported on my system, I tried glide 2 and glide 3 same result. when I put it to software screen shows blank but sounds can be heard. I have sort of mentally stored the places of buttons though. Mostly topmost button is pricing or info below that buy, slightly left at bottom are two bottom which scrolls the given items on screen. Managed to make $50000 already playing as corrupt cop with ship fitted with every software and re-usable weapons

Also I am able to view complete screen just that it is missing those button but I am still able to click them. could it be due to files I unpacked from missing wez.zip into installed folder?

@simplegoogly :
I would recommend that you reload the game, use the UIM 6.0 patch, and not install any other patches until you know the game is working okay. Report back with your results.

Hi guys, new member here. I played hardwar for a while yeeaars back and have just started playing again as part of a blog feature I might be doing.
I don't know what your policy is on links, but I'm using Windows 7 and a machine only a few months old, and managed to get Hardwar running with no mucking about at all by buying it from dotemu. Their installer took care of everything for me, and I'd imagine it would for others too. I didn't even have to try compatibility mode.
Obviously you might not want to pay for it again, but it was only a couple of quid. Might be worth a look - I couldn't find it anywhere else.
Apologies if this isn't a welcome message for some reason.
