Zedo's site covers installation on all most all versions of Windows (Win3.1, Win95) on his site at: zedo.hardwar.org.uk/install.htm The most common problem "Not enough freespace to install..." can be solved in two easy ways, The first method is to set the game to compatibility mode if you are running XP, Vista, or 7. Why does this work? It works by clearing up the problem with older software and other programs that do not recognize hardrives bigger than 40 GB. Which was a limitation with the FAT hardrive format. The second method is this piece of freeware below, as the name suggests it tells Hardwar's installer to skip the diskspace check: zedo.hardwar.org.uk/diskspace_skip.exeIf compatibility does not work use this method. Linux Leenuks install guide.Edits: Why Yes, this is a witty remark that only one in ten will read. (Yeah real witty...)

I've had my best installation luck using the Compatibility Modes available from XP on. Note that you must have administrator privileges to use Compatibility Mode under Windows Vista and 7.
I use a ripped down version of Windows XP and it is erratic on giving me warnings when installing Hardwar.
It may also be necessary to run "Hardman.exe" and "HardwarW.exe" under Compatibility Mode for Windows 98. I always try running things normally before jumping into Compatibility Mode.

I just put the "Harddemo" files into a new folder, then change just the Setup to Windows 95 Compatibility, I'm on Windows 7.

Has anyone gotten Hardwar to work under Windows 7 using "primary display drivers" or "DirectX". I'm aware of the DirectX issues with Windows 7, but I'm wondering if the game can be installed without a video card.
I tried on my smaller box with no success. I coucln't get the game to show. It installed okay, I just couldn't get any video. On my big box, I set the display to Secondary Display and use my video card. Everything works fine.
I use Windows 98 compatibility.

I'm running UIM6 on win7 64 bit with no problem (using primary display) at 1920x1200. I don't use any kind of compatibility mode and I haven't had any crashes.
The ONLY problem I have is if I force AA through the nvidia control panel, the computer menu in hangars doesn't display correctly. All other menus seem fine, so it's not a big deal and the game looks awesome with forced AFx16 and AAx16 (or highter)
I'm running with dual GTX460 in SLI
I can run smoothly with no fog but I actually set it to near because I love the foggy atmosphere, Titan just seems way too "friendly" when I can see everything in a crater.
On a side note always make sure you disable UAC and run as admin.

Got it! I've run things as Administrator, but no diabled my annoying UAC. From past experience with Windows 7, I can safely say that using the Accounts Manager in Control Panel doesn't do much except turn off notifications. I'll be using the second method below to disable UAC: www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-disable-and-turn-off-uac-in-windows-7/

Disabling UAC is pretty much a must for keeping your sanity with win7 or *gasp* vista. That's actually the first thing I do after installing it. It'll even mess up driver installs, what a joke. Other than that and couple other stupid things I actually like win7.
Also I just updated dx11 and my video drivers for the nvidia cards. Ati cards may have trouble with the engine, I never tried it with my previous cards but they had trouble with alot of older games.

vistarnh: I've had a long relationship with Windows security. I work as an independent computer and network technician. If Windows worked well, I'd be poor. As it stands, I do pretty well. I remember Vista coming out with the first real accounts security trying to mimic Linux by appearances. Bwaahaahaa. I had to turn off all security and encourage people to use third-party programs. Vista was so bad. Windows 7 is much better and I've not had any problem with its account security. I always install drivers and major programs as Administrator, so I haven't run into too much trouble. I'm very hesitant to disable UACs on clients' computers unless they specifically complain about the pop ups. Some people are comforted by them. On the other hand, I had one woman swear her computer had a virus because she got a pop up every thrity seconds or so. It turned out to be a file manager she had installed. Speaking as someone who makes money off of computers that don't work - vive Windows!

Roger that! I did something similar for a while but got burnt out of fixing other peoples' problems and working on crappy prefab compaqs, dells, hps etc.... Now work for myself and kill monsters for a living...tiny ones I still enjoy building systems and tinkering with my own stuff though.

It only pisses me off when I have to work on my own. I have to keep and use some Windows machines in order to practice with them and to walk people through procedures over the phone. My favorite business and web box is a Linux Ubuntu 10 (Lucid Lynx) system.

Last Ubuntu I played around with might have been Breezy Badger (9.?) or something of that sort. lol... Naming sense...
On a side note: Jedi Knights: Academy and KotoR2 are FAIL on Vista.
And UAC... Well it hits the wall asap.
Window can't live with 'em can't game without 'em. Computers are like Air Conditioners, they don't work with Windows open.

That's a great quote about games not working with Windows open. Still and all, what native games are Mac and Linux bragging about? They're just not game machines. I think everyone expects games to end up on gaming consoles and off of computers. I doubt it. Full computers just have more resources to offer. My take is that the new consoles are just going to be desktops you plug into your HD TV.

That is what they are now, I'm a die-hard PC Gamer, an RPGs like Final Fantasy and button mashers are what consoles do best, PCs are better for, FPS RTS TBS Flight Sims HARDWAR And any other game that needs massive amounts of data and storage, or flexibility, or modding. In fact someone got in trouble from Sony for "Jail-Breaking" his PS3, making it where he can use 3rd party software. I say if they want to make a console(s) exclusive game (No PC release) make it on the damn console(s) and leave the computers out of it.

I prefer a desktop over a console, but I'm old. All the young folks and big companies prefer consoles. The kids are used to living in front of the television and the big companies like that it's so hard to copy the modules.
I see the consoles getting bigger and better all the time. I don't think they will ever replace PC gaming, especially big desktop gaming. But, they'll be the majority gaming machine in the near future.

Hello,
Just a word to say i had to convert the 2GB partition (created just for Hardwar) into FAT to make Hardwar install on it. NTFS wasn't appropriate. I run Vista premium...
