I recently installed Hardwar, with the UIM 06 patch as well as the Enhanced2 package, on a fairly modest machine. Everything seems to work well enough, except for two issues. First, both the starting company logos as well as the TI command console flicker constantly while they're on screen. The latter works normally, but its very annoying and seems to indicate that something is wrong. Other than that, and more pressingly, the sky is not the nice shade of pinkish orange it should be - its entirely black. This seems to be a general problem with fog not appearing properly, as loaded scenery loads in rather obviously, instead of it being obfuscated as normal. I have a more powerful machine, which I don't have access to as often, which I did an essentially identical install on. I do not have this issue there. Do you have any advice?
Thank you, in advance.

Update: Turning off the 32/24 display option in the UIM Display Menu stopped the flickering problem, but the fog is still not rendering properly.

One more thing just to illustrate the bug, sorry for posting so many times. This demonstrates the fog rendering issue, with the resultant black sky and black voids. The low resolution is due to me switching between available resolutions to try to fix the problem.

I would guess a corrupted install, have you also tried checking the Use Original Fog option too?

Yes, I've tried this using both the original fog and and the UIM fog. It simply changes the hue that's applied to objects in the distance - either pink or yellow. However, neither option actually makes the fog properly render.
You mention a corrupted installation - are there installation corruption issues on Windows 8.1? I've not had an issue installing the game on 7, but this install is the first time I've tried an installation on 8.1.
EDIT: Update. I completely uninstalled Hardwar, deleted the .isos I got from the Downloads, and re-downloaded them. I encountered the same issues I did previously - the fog is still bugged. Something occurred to me, however - this laptop does not have a discrete graphics card. Could that be causing the problem?

According to a post in the general forum, it seems that laptop graphics do have those issues, I think they mentioned that running Hardwar windowed helped?

Well, running Hardwar windowed did improve performance dramatically, but did not fix the graphical issue itself. I suppose its just an issue with on-board graphics then. The good news is that I do have a somewhat older laptop that I had before I had a desktop, with a discrete graphics card. A friend of mine used it for awhile and really mucked it up, but I can restore it to factory defaults and set it up for myself, again.
I'm going to be away from my desktop for quite some time in the near future, so the purpose of attempting to install Hardwar on the laptop was to be able to take it along with me. The second laptop, once I get it working, will provide those same advantages, and can be used alongside the other. I'll post results.

Results are fairly positive with the other laptop. Performance is great, everything looks fine, except for one issue. Hangars' computer interfaces don't display properly. When the "access computer" button is clicked, this is what appears: It appears to be the regular interface, but without the UI overlay. Buttons can be moused over and clicked, but do not actually appear and do not display the information they're supposed to after being clicked. Curiously, alt-tabbing seems to make the UI appear, but when buttons are clicked, the UI seems to clash and layer - its a very odd effect, where two 3d models will be displayed in the same little area. I've done some forum searching, but haven't found anything related. Know of anything which might be relevant?

Did you use Ctrl+G to take that screen shot? Also which version are you using? Note: Alot of questions, but maybe not all that helpful or relevant in the end. . .
Does this also effect the navigation, messages, and/or what was the other again?

I managed to solve the problem. I believe it had something to do with forced antialiasing, which I wasn't even aware was enabled on the second laptop. I still do not know what caused the fog rendering problem with the first laptop, exactly, but I'll assume it has to do with on-board graphics. That doesn't matter, though, because the second installation is a complete success!
Thank you very much for your help with this problem, Pilot.

Same issue with intel HD 4600 and Geforce GTX 765m on a MSI laptop. Thx for the 24/32 tip to stop the flickering console. Still expecting a solution for the fog ! nGlide does nothing. @+
