Hello fellow hardwar fans, im a long fan of hardwar also programming. I have attempted to make a 'convert hardwar image format to normal image format' tool in the haydays of hardwar. dropped that since it never came out right, wrong pallet. Lucky nowadays there are hardwar tools all around, also im a better programmer now, 'i hope'
Anyhow im working on a pygame game, that is called stardog, most of the work is not mine it is a older opensource project. Still a fun project, and one of the changes is that i incorporated the hardfont letter type in it, which is a 'remake ?' of the original hardwar font that was in the game.
It is licensed by some company if i have to believe the font file. Now i don't want any trouble with some company pushing me around and the font is not the most readable. (it worked nice in hardwar itself)
So my questions are: Is there a original hardwar font that is licence free and better readable ? If you would pay homage to hardwar in a game what elements would you put in it, visually and game-play wise ? Would you still love hardwar if it was 2D or 2.5D. If hardwar moths would be modular like separate engines, weapons, shields, cockpits what kind of part would you realy love ? (jammer, stealth module, mini jump module) If you dare, are there things you hate about hardwar ? (of course not, but imagine the least favorite mechanic, graphic etc)

Things I hate about Hardwar, the missions that didn't work, *attack x reservoir", the cloak didn't hide me! etc.
Which font did you use? Hardfont or the other one?

Hi i used the Hardfont, i dont know about the other one might be a good idea to use as well but i dont think it will be recognized as hardwar specific.
My pygame doesn't have missions as of yet so that is covered, the clock part is not implemented yet so that should not be a problem.
I know the 'jumping the loops to trigger the script' problem is annoying, as a programmer thou less so. It would be much more bearable if the source of a game is available, it would be great if the source of hardwar would be released.
For not back to programming multiplayer ! If annyone knows some other good hardwar references to put in my game that would be great.
Is there a list of pilot names hardwar uses somewhere ?

Downtown 05, psycho bob, charlie's pizza, The afterdark! Lazarus and Klamp-G logos, sprats everywhere, the ai guy who always trade cigars? I forgot his name! Smokie china and the other pirate that always start the game in a death's head? The computer voice: Message received! Lots of things you can put in there and very recognizable for any hardwar veteran! <-- This!

Ah quite nice, i like the skull and bones, strangely enough i forgot about it or looked passed it, im still looking for a good name for the game, stardog is not what im looking for. I can use some inspiration messages received and cigars should be implementable quite easy, downtown less since it is in space, but perhaps a company that is on a planet. Ok so this multiplayer thing has made some progress, not much since other things came up, all game stuff thou so that is nice. We made a nice installer for windows users if anyone is interested in it: github.com/aaps/stardogIn utils/Output there is the setup2.exe intaller Will install python and pygame and stardog of course. Techno what is up with the Planets, they are in there, even got some early textures on em ! Aaps out !

Out of curiosity have you ever thought of using a game engine or building a game based on a game's released source? Like Freespace 2 it's source code was released to the public.

Freespace 2 source released? If they could add a trading module to it we'd have some competition for the great game freelancer.

well yes i checked out the source and a few reasons: i wanted to do some python and pygame the freespace soure is in c and c++ and thus a far bigger project
perhaps if there are more pragrammers i might consider it
the stardog source is a game engine, and i took the existing stardog and improved it so i hope that counts. Are there some projets out there that make mods of freespace 2 ?
