EDIT : Translation done !!! Thanks to Ouch and Duncan !!! Look here : hardwar.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=gamemodification&thread=397&page=1You will find the HardwarW.exe UIM06 French 1.1 zip file and Ouch patcher. The 2.0 will come further whenevery little error that can remain is corrected ! If you want to try the translated UIM06 or if you want to translate yourself it is now easy... Enjoy ! @+ Sushi Hello, Back again with that idea to translate uim06 Patch into FR.... ;D I've installed the game with the FR1 an 2 Cds. But only the dialogs are in French. If the dialogs are in FR it is certainly possible to have the text in FR as well. I've looked quite everywhere in the game folder with 7z to open any zip file but i can't find the texts !!! Should you tell me in which archive are located the texts and how to edit ? Or maybe how to contact Ian Martin to get help ? I'm pretty sure many pilots do not join the community cause of their poor English. It'd be great to have the game in any languages the originals cds permitted. @+ Regards

Thanks ouch, I've just downloaded it.
Could you explain me something ?
When I install the game with FR CDs, everything is in French including the launcher. When I apply the patch Uim06, only the dialogues remain in FR and all texts are in English including the launcher.
I suppose it is the UIM06 that needs to be patched...
How to tell the UIM06 to load the FR texts when it is installed ? Or any language already installed... He successes to get the FR dialogues, Why he doesn't get the FR Texts that are already in the HardwarW ? It should miss some instruction ?

Simple answer, the patch overwrote the exe where the ingame texts are located

That is logical.
But it doesn't overwrite the sound/dialogues files so maybe it is possible to avoid the text to be overwrote as well ?
I'd like to know how to do that, it looks simple ! Probably just an instruction to tweak !!! Any language could be installed just by installing the right CDs.

Sorry but what dialogues are you referring to? I can't figure it out... I can't remember any dialogue in the game... :/ The sounds are located in wav files... stored in the res file, right? (Can't remember... all my vital functions are being controlled by the vagus nerve now, I feel like a boa constrictor trying to digest a mini couper!)
fsss... the basic audio messages, like the "message received" are stored in wav files, the audio on the videos are on them, I think... the written text seems to be in the exe, all the text! With the exe replaced you replaced all its contents.
Any language can be installed if cds in such language exists, I can't install the game in Spanish!

The launcher is called hardman.exe You will find the text strings for the launcher in there. Unfortunately the patch doesn't technically "patch" anything, it just replaces entire files. Now days a lot of patches are just that, patches. Meaning only the the stuff in a file that needs to be updated, gets updated. So the hardwarw.exe file and hardman.exe files get over written with the english wording contained within them. You can't edit the patcher to only patch certain parts of the file, it's either all or nothing. The sounds and textures for the game are stored in large .res files. These files can be extracted to get the texture and audio files out of them. I don't believe the patcher touches any of these, but it adds another one of it's own. The "dialogues", which I assume your referring to the videos, is loaded on the fly off your hardwar cd's. These files are stored as .GDV files on the cd. You have to understand hardwar was written for dos and ported to win 95, with last minute support added for win 98. Back then unicode was still in it's infancy. As a result hardwar doesn't support languages that don't support ascii. So for instance, making an mandarin, or cyrillic, translation most likely wouldn't be possible. But because they only had to support 2 languages, they just coded all the message strings into the exe itself for each language. This would be a mistake in today's world, and that's why you see games with different files correlating to the different translations. Then the game just uses unicode strings internally, and an unicode font in game, and it magically supports pretty much any modern language known to man. I hope that helps.

Like Riedquat said, the games' .wav and video files were not part of the patch, as evident in the fact that the game patches the demo to the full version, though ti doesn't include the sound or video files.
You could try running a comparison between the files in the original French game, compared to the English game to see which files are changed, it should only be the language in the original disks.

Ok i understand. The voice is on the CD launched by DaemonTool... I've already compared the content of the US and FR Cds, and i tried to put HardwarW in the directory instead of the one from the UIM06. The Launcher launched but not the game. So it seems that turning Hardwar in an other language ll be impossible.

The HardwarW.exe file was modified by UIM.6 to almost be stand a lone. Out of curiosity, does U3.1-U3.5 also modify your in game text?
