Hi Hammer, I've been a long-term fan of your long-term game , although, I've not played on your server for about 5 or 6 years (seriously). I'm not familiar with your current server configuration and what I need to join in on the game. - Do I have to patch to UIM 06? - Are any other patches required? - What else do I need other than my retail version of the game (F2.0) installed, to be playing on your server. Also, I am really interested in trying to host my own dedicated server for the game as a bit of a test and personal project that I've always wanted to try out. What kind of tips, tricks and wisdom can you offer in getting a good Hardwar server up and running? - What operating system to use? - What services to enable / disable? - Any extra tips that you think will help to provide a stable and well-performing server to Hardwar players. Please treat me as a n00b at being a server host, having never done it before.

Hey, glad to see you want to host a game. You have to have UIM06 installed to join my game. That's it as far as game requirements are concerned. The rest is all just opening up your router/firewall ports to let the game in. As for hosting your own. I am running Window's XP and the game requires almost no resources to run as a dedicated server in the background, so pretty much any computer will do. Using MSGCv9b6 is an absolute must to keep the game running and restart it after crashes. It also lets you configure for thugs, hanger rent, etc. I also am running a modified .exe to prevent hanger abuses. There are always ways to cheat in the game, but without blocking the hanger commands it was just impossible to keep things running. Since I know absolutely nothing about coding or hacking, this helped me a lot. I'm just a guy with a computer, who really likes the game and wanted to host for as long as I can. The other thing I did was start my game as the Admin, then park the Admin safely away so no one else can use the Admin, then I joined my own game as a regular pilot, (Hammer), so I could just play if I wanted to. Make sure to do all the basics like shut off Moth Hopping, Allow Multiple Instances, etc. Or.....you could host a different kind of game not longterm. You know, enable moth hopping, let everyone have fun. My games are set up for longterm, so you don't dare have the plot running, or moth hopping on. Might be nice to have a "combat" game up where everyone can just hop in a moth, go fight and die, and do it all again. Speed and Greed on Titan! Hammer

Hammer - Thanks for all the hot info. I'll be sure to try all this out. I'm in the process of acquiring a machine and getting it set up with Hardwar. In my opinion there is only ONE longterm game and that's all yours buddy. I would like to give flyers an extra option of short-term combat and flying, to allow them to get used to taking on one another, while I get to grips with the server management. As I go along and run into more questions, I'll give you a shout. Cheers mate.

Here's the first few lines of the MSGCv9.txt file I found with Duncan and Flap's source code. Hammer and Duncan can better explain what it does and why but my understanding is that the longer a Hardwar server runs unattended the more unstable or unplayable it becomes.

how does someone host a game and play it too? cause I am interested in hosting a game. In Hardwar's Hadman.exe launcher you need to go to the last tab and select "Allow multiple instances" For most techinical problems I recommend checking Timiski's site, [a href="www.capsu.org/hardwar/"]www.capsu.org/hardwar/[/a][/size]

I think you can find a copy on this site, or Duncan or Hammer can send you a copy. If that fail's I think that you can find a old version on either Wez's or Smurph's. Maybe... www.hardwar.info/ - Wez's page, the home of downloads. smurphsworld.150m.com/ - Smurph's page, if UIM.06 and stable[ish] Enhanced patches are you want then this is the site to be. [Also less confusing than Wez's site's download page.]

Yeah, I landed on some info from Timski's FAQ site, explaining in brief what the MSGC is for. Basically, it cleans up all the redundant info that gets generated through the game: www.capsu.org/hardwar/faq/10.html#uim_1_5
