@captain Zedo - Captain, I just want to emphasise that DPLAY.dll belongs to the DirectPlay (network communication) library within DirectX and that it's main role is to assist Multiplayer aspects of a DirectX based game. Effectively, it has been removed in DirectX 11 and completely revises how multiplayer controls work in DirectX games. No more DirectPlay, means no more DPLAY.dll, means Hardwar and all earlier DirectX based games that have multiplayer (strictly based on DirectPlay) will not function within Windows 7 or the upcoming Windows 8. I hope this helps fellow pilots understand the importance of this rather overlooked file. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I'll get that up ASAP. I'll also be looking for workarounds for the whole DirectX thing. I've been reading up on this ever since I first heard of it from you. I can't thank you enough for bringing this up. I'm a bit worried we're getting ahead of ourselves on "fixes" that may or may not be necessary. I didn't have to copy an old DPLAY.DLL to host and/or join a Hardwar server on my Windows 7 and Vista machines.

I mention in the new installation guide that everyone should try a straightforward installation by simply double-clicking the "Setup.exe" file. This often works on Windows7. I've never seen it work on XP or Vista. Worth a shot, though, just because there's no sense in solving problems that aren't there.

I haven't been able to duplicate running SETUP.EXE without using Win98 compatibility mode since the one time it happened to me immediately after I installed Windows 7. It's still a mystery to me but not really a problem. I did figure out that Hardwar UIM.06 shows the Misc tab whether you run HARDLUCK.EXE or not. I guess I just never noticed before because I usually run HARDLUCK.EXE out of habit before upgrading to UIM.06. A quick and easy test for Hardwar Multiplayer and/or DirectPlay is to check "Run in background" and "Allow multiple instances" on the Misc tab. Now you can start a Hardwar dedicated server and one or more Hardwar clients on the same machine without worrying about forwarding the correct ports or finding a running host.
