Hello all,
I'll start by saying that I'm a veteran Hardwar player. I've sunk countless hours of my life in to flying around Titan in my pimped out moths back in the day.
Every now and then I get the urge to boot up the game and take it for a nostalgic spin. This time I'm returning to the game after not playing for a while and have decided to dive in to the modding arena that seems to be still somewhat active around the old forums in order to breathe some new life in to the game.
I've managed to pick up a lot of files from searching through forum posts and Hardwar fansites that are still active. I've got a lot of hwe_dev_econmod files but I'm not sure of the difference between dev, dev2 dev3, dev3b/c etc., as well as all of the release dates. I'm really quite confused as most of the readmes just explain the same thing and I have no idea about half of the stuff that they change or what the intention of the mod is. I presume that everything was better documented at one time but any information is long gone, along with the sites and forums which used to host it.
The enhanced version I've had the most luck with is "Enhanced dev (jimmy_2010-11-12)" which I think I picked up from this forum. Thanks Jimmy. But, having played through for I while I realised that a lot of the manufacturing just wasn't profitable and that when manufacturing new moths you could not enter them. I'm not sure if all of this is intentional. Also, this version seemed to be produced from an older update which includes different manufacturing processes from the UIM6 updates, but it does allow AI pilots to sell to your hangers (which is a huge plus.)
Having been out of the loop for a while, and the fact that there is so many files, but so little information I haven't been sure about what exactly is the best mod set-up to go with. I've played around with different enhanced files and started up several new games and found that one thing or another is not quite right. Either there are too many CTD's, screwy
AI/Economy or the mods just don't do what I'm after. So, before I go any further with the game I thought I would drop a thread here to see if anyone could help me out.
My ideal game of Hardwar would include the following:
It would be great if I could scrape together a mod or a few mods which could get all of what I like incorporated in to the game, if not, I'm willing to settle for the closest thing that anyone can recommend. Can someone recommend what mods or enhanced files to use and how best to use them?
Also, a few more questions if anyone can answer them. In an enhanced file that allows AI to sell to your hangar it says it does so by "Trade Mission." What is this "Trade Mission"? Is there a location list for hireable thugs, I've only managed to find one named robhat at Hardwarp FM so far? If a thug is destroyed, do I lose them and the moth?

- A stable release which doesn't crash every few minutes
- A good manufacturing experience (manufacturing recipes that make monetary sense, moths that you can enter after production)
- A good economy (constant supply and demand, end products that get used up)
- AI traders that sell goods to your hangars
- The ability to rename your hanger and see your new hangar name externally
- More AI pilots
- Thugs
What I don't care about so much in some of the mods I've played around with:
- The afterburner fuel mod
- New hangars (unless I can add lots of new industry which aids the economy)
- Moth skins
