Hello all,
I've just installed Hardware for the first time since playing it briefly when it came out.
I'm running the game in WINE on Mac, and am not sure if the in-game videos are playing. The starting video with the guy smoking plays, I just haven't seen any in-game video yet.
I've got to just after the point in the game where Klamp-G want you to destroy the mass loader part and still haven't seen any videos. Does that sound right?
Thanks all, Laurence.

Yeah you wouldn't have seen one yet if your just following the plot. That's really early in it. Plus not all video's are in the plot line. For instance if you go to the police station to pay your fine you will get a video and if you don't have enough money you will get a different one. there are things all over that will trigger videos but are not directly plot related.

Ah, I'm relieved, thanks ouch!
Over the years, I've started playing Hardwar several times, and for some reason always got the around the mass loader part and then life got in the way and I had to stop. I really didn't want to have to play that bit again!
I've stumbled across a pretty lucrative narcotics run in the Riverside crater, so I'm looking forward to seeing how things go.

The first video (GDV) plays after you pick up the Mystery Package and report to Psycho Bob's 2. Psycho Bob greets you and explains what else he needs.

Hey Laurence, I believe you are the first to mention that you have hardwar going on a mac/wine. Could you make a more elaborate post on how to get it to work on mac/wine? Was it hard, or is it straight forward. I tried a couple of years back but ran into problems not having direct3d I believe. Cheers, Duncan.

All you have experienced is the alien moth at Lightwell #3 and run the Klamp Decoy Mission. It will be quite a while before you get to the first video. It will occur around Day 10 after you pick up The Mystery Package and go to Psycho Bob's 2. Sorry for the spoiler. There is a lot to do in the meantime, though. This is the part of the plotline I really enjoy - preparation and getting a better Moth. Here's a link to the Walkthrough of the game's missions: www.zedo.hardwar.info/plot.htm . Here's the specific page with the preparations you can make at the bottom: www.zedo.hardwar.info/decoy.htm

Hi Duncan, It was quite easy, if a little long winded and works extremely well at full screen at a modern resolution too. The only caveats are that it doesn't work if you have multiple monitors connected, and I haven't tested online play. I use Wineskin to run Windows programs on Mac. It uses the main Wine project, but wraps programs so that they can be run as if they're native Mac OS X apps. I submitted a Wine report here: appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=3839To install: - Start Wineskin
- Click the plus symbol and install the newest "Engine" you can find. This installs Wine for you.
- Click "Create New Blank Wrapper"
- Name it Harwar and click OK.
- Wait a bit for it to create the wrapper.
- When it says it's done click "View wrapper in finder"
- Ctrl (right) click on the app icon and select "Show Package Contents". A Mac App is really just a special type of folder and this lets you see inside.
- Start the Wineskin app you find inside the Hardwar app folder.
- Click the "Advanced" button
- Click the Tools tab
- Click the "Config Utility (winecfg)" button at top left.
- In the new Wine Configuration window set the "Windows Version" drop down to Windows 98. This stops the installer complaining there's no space.
- Click OK in the Wine Configuration window.
- Click the Configuration tab
- Click install software
- Select the Hardwar setup.exe from wherever your CD is
- Install as normal
- In the Choose Executable window that appears select Harman.exe and click OK.
- Click Install Software again
- Install the UIM06 patch.
- Don't worry if Wineskin says it thinks the installer failed. It always says that about the patch.
- Click the Tools tab again
- Click the Winetricks button
- Wait for the list to download
- Expand the settings option
- Click the orm=backbuffer checkbox. This stops flickering and rendering problems when accessing your computer in the game.
- Click the "Run" button
- When Winetricks has finished installing that option click the close button
- Close the Wineskin configuration window
- Show the ~/Applications/Wineskin/Harwar app package contents as per step 7. Note that the Applications folder is a new special one in your home directory, not the global Applications folder.
- Copy all the *.GDV files from both CDs to drive_c/Program Files/Interplay/Hardwar. This allows you to play without the CDs.
- Launch the ~/Applications/Wineskin/Harwar app.
- Click the Display tab in the Hardwar launcher
- Set 24/32bit, fullscreen display and mipmaps.
- Do not set 32bit textures because this will give you weird colours in the game.
- Set any other graphics options you want.
- Play the game!
Let me know if you need any help.

Are you sure that escpaped.* is in the Hardwar directory? Very wel possible, I installed from the patched demo. I thought escaped.* would show/play when plot completed.

Hey, maybe not the right thread - but I've been playing UIM6 a bit on mac/wine and all is working fine, but am now stuck in the plot. I've blasted both secret bases and unloaded 3 unkown origin in my hangar, one dissappeared as soon as it was picked up. Also received the 'come on home' message from Psycho Bob (day 17), which I did. Been flying around now for a good couple extra days (it's day 32), but no new plot developments. If I dock at bob a video is supposed to play (which I don't see - probably from disk 2 which didnt load on my mac) and my moth is outfitted with a Tac-nuke. If I fire that at tunnel block nothing happens, and I will get another Tac.
edit: just nuked vacant 0033 and then got the 'Missed' message of Bob who tells me to come back to get another nuke.
So not sure what is supposed to happen - need to be more patient? Also no gang-boy messages. Cannot load unkown origin from my hangar as hangar controls are disabled for this item (also cannot set price).
Ideas?
Anyway, great fun to play again. Even got to bust a Q.
btw. installed from 'Hardwar Pack 2' (demo+UIM6). Then replaced the RES file with the original game disk 1 version and also copied GDV videos (disk 1 only). Btw, itunes thinks the music is montypython songs.

Hi I started playing hardwar on my windows 10 and so far the game is working fine except, I came to a plot where the Lazarus and KlampG sends us a message with a video in it? I mean the message loosely says 'click the play button to view the video'.. But the 'play'option is missing.. It only has 'target sender', 'delete' and 'exit/cancel'. And this is all before the psycho Bob's mission.. So is psycho bobs really the first video? Or do we have other in-game videos before psycho Bob's?
PS. This is the patch which has the swallow moth. Also, I get the same error 'escaped. ' missing after I exit the game.
Thank for the help!!

If necessary you can jump to the plot in the god menu in god hangar. It's called something like : "after a while bob will call you" @+
