Hi guys I used to post here years ago. Made a new account.
Me and a few friends are trying to host a server. Are there instructions on how to do that (preferably in linux) anywhere? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah I remember your name, lol. And I'd think if you can run Hardwar on your computer, you could run a server... There might be some extra programs you need if it's going to be a longterm/dedicated server though, like ASROC. Is it okay if I join with y'all? I wouldn't cause any trouble Hammers server is quite.. dead... only trace of other players is "Mike" who owns every hangar in the game and apparently doesn't play anymore.

Ha sure but unfortunately I don't think we can have that many people join. The admin for the server is trying to get wine running so hopefully we can figure it out.

Have you gotten the game to run in Linux? If so, how? I've tried using WINE in Ubuntu 10 with no luck. I've tried getting Hardwar to run under Linux a few times in the past and never got past the installation. You'd be my hero for life if you could get Hardwar running under Linux.

We're working on it. Currently the server is mad at us for giving it a gui. I'm sure we can get it running some how. I'll keep you updated.
Update: Welp, it runs. Where can I find MSGCv9.exe? We installed it on a flash drive then copied over the files.

It's me, I'm the one running the thing.
Getting it running on linux was simple, I simply downloaded the demo and patch (UIL6) and ran it using wine-1.2.2. I used winecfg to change both the patcher and setup.exe to win2000 compatibility, but I don't think it matters.
I had to install it on a flash drive to prevent usable space errors, and then move it over to program files. The program would complain and try to patch again since the path was different, but I used regedit to modify all references to the old path to the new one.
It runs with some fairly terrible color bugs, but since it's going to be a server I doubt that matters. I'm currently trying to compile msgcv9.c, since there are no exe's available. The computer I'm using is just a box in my living room, if there's need I could get it on a vps for a while (couple years)

Hi,
I got the msgc.exe if still needed - also sent a copy just now to zedo if he likes to host.
Cheers
